When you have lost the passport with Re-Entry Permission or Special Re-Entry Permission abroad

When you have lost the passport with a re-entry permission [Sai-nyukoku Kyoka] or a special re-entry permission [Minashi Sai-nyukoku Kyoka] abroad, you need to obtain a certification of the re-entry permit deadline [Sai-nyukoku kyoka kigenn shomei]. Please make contact with the nearest Regional Immigration Services Bureau, since a certification of the re-entry permit deadline is unable to be issued through the Embassy.
 

When you have lost the passport

1. Submit “Application for certification of the re-entry permit deadline” and Proxy Form to apply for proof of your re-entry permit in writing (Application for Re-entry Permit Deadline Certification) through a representative at the nearest Regional Immigration Services Bureau in Japan.
2. Receive an issued proof from your representative.
3. Re-enter Japan with your new passport and an issued proof.
 

When you have lost the residence card

You may re-enter Japan with a re-entry permission in your passport, even if you have lost the residence card. If you have a special re-entry permission in your passport, you may re-enter Japan with a stamp of “DEPARTED [Shukkoku]” and DISEMBARKATION CARD FOR REENTRANT stamped “Out of the country on a special re-entry permission” in your passport.
The airline may ask you to present your residence card. Please make contact with the airline about your travel documents in advance.
You need to apply for a residence card at the nearest Regional Immigration Services Bureau within 14 days after your re-entry.
