Temporary Visitor Visa for Visiting Relatives or Acquaintances

This visa is eligible for those who are visiting relatives or acquaintances residing in Japan. Specific foreign citizens are eligible to apply for the multiple visa for sightseeing. If you have a plan to visit Japan more than twice, you are recommended to apply for the visa.

Note:
(1) On applying for visa, you must read “HOW TO APPLY” carefully.
(2) During the visa process, the applicant may be requested to submit additional documents deemed necessary.
(3) You must prepare all documents in A4 size and bring physical visa application and the physical photograph. Pleased do not staple documents.
(4) The duration of the issued document should be within 3 months from the date of issue, and be submitted within its validity period.
(5) All documents submitted should be original documents. If you need to keep any of the original documents, please bring the original plus a copy.
(6) The validity of visa is 3 months from the date of issue and is not extendable. Therefore, we will not accept any visa applications more than 3 months before your scheduled departure date.

 

Required documents “Applicant pays for own travel expenses”

Documents prepared by applicant

  (1) Valid Passport
      Should have at least 2 blank pages for visa
  (2) A copy of valid passport
        Only bio-date page (printed on A4 paper)
  (3) Residence permit issued by MIGRI (except EU nationals) 
        Note: If your residence permit is expiring/has been expired, please submit a copy of the certificate "Vireilläolotodistus" issued by MIGRI after you have submitted an application for extending your residence permit.
  (4) A copy of residence permit (except EU nationals)
        Both sides (printed on A4 paper)
  (5) Application Form
        Applicants who have passports issued by Russia, CIS countries and Georgia need to submit 2 application forms.
        
If there is any omission in the description, it will be not accepted.
        If an item does not apply to you, write "Not Applicable" or "N/A".
        The applicant must sign by him/herself. The electrical signature is not acceptable.
  (6) Photograph
        4.5cm×3.5cm, taken within last 6 months.
        
The photograph should meet the standard of passport photo and be printed on photo paper.  
        Applicants who have passports issued by Russia, CIS countries and Georgia need to submit 2 photographs.
  (7) 
Documents to prove ability to pay for travel expenses
        The Bank statement (tiliote) or certificate of deposit bank balance or bankbook etc. (latest update, 3 months period)
        The documents must be issued in English or Japanese. If the documents are issued in other languages, the applicant must translate into English.
  (8) Confirmation slip to prove reservation of air boarding ticket or Information on planned schedule of flight with entry/departure date to/from Japan
  (9) Hotel confirmation document
  (10) Documents to prove kinship
        Visiting relatives: Birth/Marriage certificate, family register
        Visiting acquaintances: Letters, e-mails


The spouse (who does not submit own documents to prove ability to pay for travel expenses) and the child of the applicant are required to prepare these documents below:
    - Spouse of applicant: Marriage Certificate (issued within 3 months)
    - Child of applicant: Birth Certificate (issued within 3 months)
     The certificate must be issued in English or Japanese. If the certificate is issued in other languages, the applicant must translate into English.
     Certificates issued by Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV)

Documents prepared by inviting person/guarantor in Japan

   (1)

         In the case of visiting relatives, when the inviter or his/her spouse is Japanese.
   (3) 
List of applicants (JapaneseEnglish)
         When there are multiple applicants
   (4) 
Travel Itinerary (JapaneseEnglish)
         Daily activities from the date of arrival to the date of departure written by each day, arriving and departing flight information (if already fixed), place of stay (name, its address and contact number).

   (8) Copies of both sides of the valid Residence Card “Zairyu-Card”
