Visa for Working Holiday

The number of visas issued for Finnish citizens to participate in the Working Holiday Scheme is currently limited to 200 per Japanese Financial Year (April - March). Acceptance of applications will be closed when the number of visas issued reaches this number.


Note:
(1) On applying for visa, you must read "How to Apply" carefully.
(2) During the visa process, the applicant may be requested to submit additional documents deemed necessary.
(3) You must prepare all documents in A4 size and bring physical visa application documents and a physical photograph. Please do not staple documents.
(4) The duration of the issued document should be within 3 months from the date of issue, and be submitted within its validity period.
(5) All documents submitted should be original documents. If you need to keep any of the original documents, please bring the original plus a copy.
(6) Validity of visa is 3 months from the date of issue and not extendable. Therefore, we will not accept any visa applications more than 3 months before your scheduled depature date.

Conditions  

Working Holiday Visas, valid for a period of three months from the date of issue, are issued to persons who satisfy all of the following requirements:

 

 (1)  Be Finnish citizens who are resident in Finland
 (2)  Intend primarily to holiday in Japan for a period of up to one year from the date of entry (Finnish citizens may holiday in Japan for up to 90 days without a visa)
 (3)  Be aged between eighteen (18) and thirty (30) years both inclusive at the time of application for a Working Holiday Visa
 (4)  Be persons who are not accompanied by children
 (5)  Be persons who are not accompanied by spouses unless those spouses are in possession of a Working Holiday Visa or otherwise
 (6)  Possess a valid passport, and an outward and return/onward travel ticket or sufficient funds with which to purchase such a ticket
 (7)  Possess reasonable funds for their maintenance during the period of initial stay in Japan
 (8)  Intend to leave Japan at the end of their stay
 (9)  Have not previously been issued a Working Holiday Visa (except where you were unable to use the Working Holiday visa issued due to unavoidable circumstances, and an application or appeal for re-issue is made no more than 3 months from the expiry date of the original Working Holiday visa.). To appeal for re-issue, please contact the visa officer.
(10) Be in good health
(11) Buy sufficient medical insurance to cover during intended stay in Japan
(12) Do not have any crime records
(13) Abide by Japanese laws during intended stay in Japan

 

Required documents

Documents written by hand are not acceptable except signature.

 (1)  Valid Passport should have at least 2 blank visa pages
 (2)  Copy of valid passport only bio-date page (printed on A4 paper)
 (3)  Application Form
        If there is any omission in the description, it will be not accepted.
        The applicant must sign by him/herself. The electrical signature is not acceptable.
        “Guarantor” and “Inviter” are not needed to fill in.
 (4)  One photograph
         4.5cm×3.5cm, taken within last 6 months.
         The photograph should meet the standard of passport photo and be printed on photo paper. 
 (5)  CV (Resume)
 (6)  Outline of intended activities
 (7)  Document explaining the reason for applying for a Working Holiday visa
         Printed on A4 paper
 (8)  Documents to prove ability to pay for travel expenses
         Bank statements in the applicant's name covering the three months prior to the application date must be  shown as proof of funds. Criteria of the balance is more than 4,200 Euro. In the case of a married couple applying together for two Working Holiday visas, the minimum amounts are 7,400 Euro.
 (9)  Pledge
        The applicant must sign by him/herself. The electrical signature isn’t acceptable.
(10) Consent   
        If you wish to receive information concerning Japanese culture event, please submit the consent letter.(11) Questionnaire (After concluding Working Holiday)
        It would be grateful for us that you submit the questionnaire after participating Working Holiday.

 

Attention

 1. Applicants will not be able to engage themselves in activities which are considered to go against the policies of the Working Holiday Scheme such as working at businesses which may affect public morals.
 2. Participants of Working Holiday need to file a moving-in notification with your municipal office within 14 days after they settled into a new address. You can refer to “Guidebook on Living and Working – For Foreign Nationals who Start Living in Japan –” to understand the procedure.
 3. Participants of Working Holiday are obliged to join National Health Insurance as of the date they settled into a new address. Principally persons who stay at hotel (temporary accommodation is not regarded as “address” in Japan) cannot join National Health Insurance, but participants of Working Holiday need to file a moving-in notification with your municipal office within 14 days after they settled into the hotel.
 4. National Health Insurance doesn’t cover all medical affairs. Participants need to buy sufficient medical insurance covering death and disability, damage compensation, medical transportation.
 5. If participants wish to temporarily leave and return to Japan, they can re-enter Japan with their currently authorized status of residence and period of stay through Special Re-entry Permit.
 6. Job Centers (Hello Work), and the Employment Service Centers for Foreigners in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya provide assistance to job-seekers in Japan. The above Employment Service Centers for Foreigners and some Job Centers are able to provide assistance in English.
